Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all, we ask Allaah, the Almighty, the Most High, and the Lord of the Great Throne, to heel the questioning sister and all the ill Muslims from every disease.

Know, dear questioner, that Allaah has sent down a cure for every disease that may befall people. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said in the authentic Hadeeth: “Indeed, Allaah has sent down a cure for every disease.” [Al-Bukhari] He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) also said: “Indeed Allaah has sent down both the disease and the cure, and He made for every disease a cure.” [At-Tirmithi] Another narration, recorded by Imaam Ahmad, adds, “… known to those who know it, and unknown to those who don’t know it.”

Moreover, how often you find an ill person whose doctors said that there is no hope for his cure, nonetheless, Allaah cures him and helps him to fully recover. Therefore, we advise you to trust Allaah, persevere, exert your utmost effort in supplicating, and beware of hopelessness and despair. In this regard please refer to Fataawa 86483 and 82355.

Concerning the supplications that one may say during illness, Allaah has informed us, in His book, that Quran is a cure. Allaah Says (what means): {Thus, step by step, We send down through this Quran all that gives cure and is a grace unto those who believe [in Us]}[Quran 17:82]. Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 'Thus, Quran is the complete cure for all physical and spiritual diseases; diseases that relate to this life and the life to come.'

As for the manner of seeking cure from the Quran, or the Prophetic supplications, there are certain instructions from the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) that teach us a variety of ways, among which are the following:

1. Read the Quran or the supplication, and then blow into your hands with little saliva, and then wipe your body, or the place of pain, by your hands.

2. Say this supplication, “O Allaah, the Lord of people, remove the harm, heal for You are the Healer, there is no healer but You; [I supplicate to You for] a complete healing that leaves no illness.”

3. Place your hand on the place of pain, and then say, “In the name of Allaah” three times, and then say, “I take refuge in Allaah and His Might from the evil of what I feel and am wary of.” [Al-Bukhari]

Allaah Knows best.
