Dear Brother/Sister, while reading some fatawa online, I came across Dr Zakir Naik's statement below:
There are five types of divorce in Islam – The first type is by unilateral… by unilateral agreement, between the husband and wife – Both may say… ‘Okay, we are not compatible… let us part’.
Can you explain this type of divorce. In.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. My husband divorced me because I asked for a Khul' (divorce requested by the wife in which she is to return the bridal gift)but without compensation, so it was a simple divorce and we did not know that at that time. We thought that it was a good Khul'done correctly, but no. So I had to wait three months for my ‘Iddah (post-divorce.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. When a husband divorced his wife and then pronounces a second divorce during the ‘Iddah (post-divorce waiting period), should the wife add a new ‘Iddah of three months from the moment when the second divorce was pronounced, or should she finish the same ‘Iddah that she started with the first divorce? For example: he divorced.. More
Assalaamu alaykum. Last year, around August, I asked my husband to give me an oath on the Quran, by putting his hand on the Quran, to prove that he is not cheating on me again. He had done this for me once or twice before too. But this time (in August), right after giving me an oath on Skype, he said, while showing me his hand on the Quran, "You looking.. More
Dear sir, I am a 36-year-old man. I married a woman who is 27 years old. After getting married, we started facing problems. She does not know anything regarding housework; in addition to that, she is lazy. She also tells her parents about things that happen between us. One day, we had a problem that necessitated her parents to visit us. When they came,.. More
Dear Brother/Sister. Assalaamu alaykum. I came across some articles in which it says that a man can give the right of divorce to his wife. Does that mean that if a man tells his wife during a fight: if you want to leave, then go, and, on the spot, since the wife is angry, she says, "Yes, I am leaving you," this counts as a divorce? Thank you for explaining.

Assalaamu alaykum, Sheikh. In pakistani culture, if the husband says, 'I divorce you', it would count as a divorce no matter what his intentions were. However, if a husband did not pronouce the word Talaaq (divorce) completely, like for example, he said 'Talaa' or 'Talq' (skipping the letter Alif) instead, would that still count as a divorce? If he.. More
